BES Systems' Data
Link is the main building block of leading manufactures of ACMI and Virtual
Radar Systems in Trainer
planes.
'Virtual
Radar' system allows a Trainee Pilot to operate the full Avionics and weapon
systems of a modern Aircraft on a Trainer plane. The system substitutes
expensive hardware units such as multi mode Fire Control Radar (FCR), Radar
Warning Receiver (RWR) and Identification Friend or Foe (IFF).
The Virtual Radar
provides the pilot with an excellent scoring and debriefing ability by measuring
and recording all his moves and actions through the aircraft Bus.
The BES Data Link utilizes a sophisticated data communication system,
it also allows
for various target simulations, post flight debriefing in three
dimensions, as well as collision avoidance alert, an essential flight safety
characteristic.
Virtual Radar functionality can be introduced
accurately in trainer planes that cannot accommodate real radar. The Virtual Radar is implemented with BES
Systems' multiple participant Airborne S-Band TDMA data link with its 200-400
slots per second and data rate of up to 714KB/sec. The system enables any
aircraft equipped with it to communicate with any number of other
participants without any ground or airborne master.
Normally, with an airborne omni
directional antenna, the Data Link has a useful range of 60-70NM range. Using a
ground station with high gain antennas it is possible to get ranges exceeding
120NM.
